In results released today by Thomson Reuters from its unprecedented study objectively focused on quality and efficiency, Kettering Health Network was identified as one of 10 top U.S. health systems based on all member hospitals' clinical performance.
In addition, KHN is the only one of the top 10 systems that ranked in the top quintile in all five categories - 1) Risk-Adjusted Mortality Index, 2) Risk-Adjusted Complications Index, 3) Risk-Adjusted Patient Safety Index, 4) Core Measures Mean Percent, and 5) Severity-Adjusted Average Length of Stay (Days).
In the Health System Quality/Efficiency Benchmarks Study, researchers from the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® program analyzed the quality and efficiency of 252 health systems and found statistically significant differences between top and bottom performers in several key areas.
The study breaks new ground by collecting patient data across all member hospitals to reflect the quality and efficiency of health systems in the U.S. The results of this study are especially important in that KHN is being recognized based on patient data objectively collected by Thomson Reuters.
Compared with the poorest performers in the study, the best performing health systems had 25% lower mortality, 19% fewer medical complications and 13% fewer patient safety incidents - even though their patients were sicker and their average hospital stays were significantly shorter.
